Police-endorsed Waze app relied on for no-hitch presidential visit in Israel

Tel Aviv

Israeli police have endorsed crowdsourced traffic-mapping application, Waze, in attempt to minimise disruption on roads during a visit from President Obama.

Issuing concerns about the levels of congestion during March's presidential visit the federal constabulary has taken a leap of faith and assured drivers can rely on Waze to offer them suitable alternative routes should jams be an issue.

Working on the crowdsourcing principle, Waze -- a startup founded in Tel Aviv during 2008 -- relies on its members to feed data into the mobile application, reporting on a car's driving speed, petrol prices and other irregularities, such as roadworks.
