Free game list for disgruntled SimCity owners confirmed: Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3 and more

Pick one of eight titles
Free game list for disgruntled SimCity owners confirmed: Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3 and more. Gaming, SimCity, EA, EA Games, Maxis 0

So, you bought SimCity and found the whole launch situation and subsequent bugs to be too much to bear. Well as EA previously announced, it's giving you a free game to make up for it. We've got the list, so here are your choices:

- Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
- Bejeweled 3
- Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
- Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
- Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
- NFS Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
- Plants vs. Zombies
- SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

Now, we have a feeling that hardcore gamers are going to be pretty annoyed by this, given that if you game a lot you're quite likely to have all of the above titles anyway, apart from Bejeweled 3, which surely no one alive is going to chose over big-names like Battlefield or Mass Effect 3.

All of the games range from about ?7 retail price (Plants vs Zombies), up to around ?40 for Dead Space 3. Still, the price is likely to be less of an issue for most, who are going to want to chose something they haven't already got. And besides, one shouldn't stare a gift horse in the chops.

To get your free game, pretty much all you need to do is load Origin on the date the offer starts in your region. You will then be prompted via the "Featured Today" window that most people probably ignore. You'll get a reminder once a day until the closing date, or you redeem your free game.

You might notice that some of those games are rated 18, so underage users will be given a copy of both Bejeweled and Sim City 4, which seems like a nice deal considering everyone else has to pick one game. Mind you, anyone who owns those games already might have something to say about it.

UK users should see the free game portal by midnight on 21 March, and you need to have redeemed your game by 25 March at midnight (that's US Pacific time). It's interesting to note that you need only to have activated SimCity by the 21 March, which means if you buy it now you'll still get the free game. Not a bad deal by all accounts.

Overall, this seems to be a decent way of keeping gamers happy, although perhaps a gift card to use on any EA game you fancy might have been a better idea, at least then people could get a decent discount on any game they liked.
