The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) in the United States is holding a competition to find six new bases for testing drones, and 50 different entrants are now facing off in what you could call a kind of X Factor of remote warfare.
While unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) may be in the news mostly for their destructive properties, the FAA has realised that they're here to stay, and tests will be needed to integrate drones with civilian air traffic. The six bases will run tests "to conduct critical research into how best to safely integrate unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace over the next several years and what certification and navigation requirements will need to be established". According to AP, 50 groups have responded to the FAA's request.
