Reports claim Samsung is working on its own open-source WebKit browser that will be implemented in future Galaxy devices.

According to the Electronic Times in Korea, the manufacturer has been looking to recruit WebKit developers to begin working at Samsung’s Advanced Software Platform Lab at its research and development centre in Silicon Valley.

It’s thought the move is a conscious effort to distinguish its future Galaxy line-up from other Android devices by offering a new and unique browser experience. Apple iOS devices use Safari as the default browser, while Android phones also use Google’s own default browser.?

Though there are plenty of other browsers available to download – Opera and Chrome to name but two – there’s a school of thought that the majority of mobile users revert to their phone’s default browser.

By embedding its own web browser on future Galaxy devices, Samsung will get to introduce users to a new surfing experience without the need to be downloading new software.
