Meet the HTC One X+

EXCLUSIVE: We've got pictures
Meet the HTC One X+. Phones, HTC, HTC One X+, HTC One X 0

The HTC One X+?isn't official yet, but that hasn't stopped us getting two exclusive pictures ahead of any official announcement for us to share with you.

Following a blurry picture of the front?of the HTC One X+ leaked on Twitter?earlier in the week, Pocket-lint has been sent two images - one of the front and one of the back - of the new Android handset by a trusted source.

What we can tell from the pictures is that the design is virtually identical to the HTC One X?and will feature a large touchscreen (presumably 4.7-inch) that dominates the front of the device with three touch keys beneath it.

READ:?HTC One X review

Around the back the pictures indicates that HTC's charging dock points will be present and a camera positioned in the top half of the device in the centre. The shell is made from polycarbonate, our source has confirmed.

The only real cosmetic change appears to be the decision to use the newer "b" logo for Beats - incidentally also the same logo as featured on the Windows Phone 8X device announced earlier in the month.

According to previous specs leaked the HTC One X+ will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, house an Nvidia AP37 1.6GHz quad-core processor along with a 1.7GHz single core and will offer 32GB ROM and 1GB RAM.?

UPDATE 28/09/12?Mobile phone website?GSMArena has spotted that the One X+ is being featured in the latest O2 catalogue. According to the blurb next to the picture the HTC One X+ will feature 64GB of storage, an 8 megapixel camera, 1.7GHz quad core processor, Jelly Bean, and 25GB of Dropbox storage. It will be available for ?479.99 if you buy it to Pay & Go.?

UPDATE 2 28/09/12: We've popped into a local O2 store and found a similar listing for the One X+.

Unlock your contract-free AT&T iPhone 5: just restore in iTunes

AT&T customers who bought their iPhone 5 off-contract can easily unlock their phone to work on another carrier, says a report in TechCrunch. Instead of faxing paperwork to AT&T and waiting for authorization, customers without a contract can simply connect their iPhone 5 to iTunes and restore it to unlock the device. After the restore process is complete, customers will be greeted with a message saying, "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked."

TechCrunch reached out to AT&T, which confirmed that a restore will unlock the iPhone 5 for customers who are not under a contract. Writer Romain Dillet tested it with his device and was able to get a signal on T-Mobile after he inserted a microSIM that was trimmed to fit into the iPhone 5. Other users on AT&T's support forum also report success with this procedure.

APP OF THE DAY: Bag It! review (Android)

Bag-packing puzzler
APP OF THE DAY: Bag It! review (Android). Apps, App of the day, Android apps 0

Some of the best mobile games bring a surprise with them. Who thought that firing birds with a catapult would be such a huge success?

Taking the somewhat abstract and packaging it up into a game leads to some fantastic results and packaging is exactly what today's App of the Day is all about. Yes, we’re going shopping.

Bag it!

Platform
Android

Price
Free / ?1.27

Where
Google Play (free)?/?Google Play (full)

Bag it!, as you'll guess from the name, is all about bagging-up your shopping. How this moved itself from checkout-aisle frustration to amusing time-waster on your Android phone is beyond us, but it seems to have worked.

The concept of the game is to pack items into a bag. There are various different challenges you'll face along with way, with different objectives in different levels. For example, in some levels you'll have to pack the items with nothing getting damaged, in other levels the aim is to have as many breakages as possible.

It sounds simple, but the result is a game that offers a great deal of variety. Packing and rotating the items gives a hint of a Tetris-type puzzler, but there are also combos to be grabbed along the way, with bonus points awards when you combine the eggs, or get OJ and milk together, for example.

?

To progress you need to have collected the prerequisite number of stars, awarded for successful completion of various aspects of the game, unlocking things as you go along.

It sounds simple, but at times you'll be left scratching your head trying to figure out exactly what you have to do to avoid squashing your eggs. That's one of the things we like about Bag it!: it's simple in concept, but tricky enough to remain interesting.

We also find outselves confused by the characterisation of various products. The milk looks rather grumpy while the orange juice flutters its eyelashes at you alluringly. We've never thought of OJ as sexy, but there's a first time for everything.

There is a Lite and a paid-for version of the game, with the free version offering up a surprising number of levels to get your teeth into. The full game will cost you ?1.27, but offers more than 60 levels. The free version will give you a selection of levels in three different modes to get you hooked.

Samsung working on its own web browser for Galaxy range

WebKit in development
Samsung working on its own web browser for Galaxy range. Phones, Samsung, Android, Web browsers, Safari, Chrome, Webkit 0

Reports claim Samsung is working on its own open-source WebKit browser that will be implemented in future Galaxy devices.

According to the Electronic Times in Korea, the manufacturer has been looking to recruit WebKit developers to begin working at Samsung’s Advanced Software Platform Lab at its research and development centre in Silicon Valley.

It’s thought the move is a conscious effort to distinguish its future Galaxy line-up from other Android devices by offering a new and unique browser experience. Apple iOS devices use Safari as the default browser, while Android phones also use Google’s own default browser.?

Though there are plenty of other browsers available to download – Opera and Chrome to name but two – there’s a school of thought that the majority of mobile users revert to their phone’s default browser.

By embedding its own web browser on future Galaxy devices, Samsung will get to introduce users to a new surfing experience without the need to be downloading new software.

Samsung asks us to witness 'The Next Big Thing' at an October 24th event in New York City

Samsung sends invitations to 'The Next Big Thing' on October 24th in New York City

We're starting to suspect that Samsung has a thing for special events. The company just asked us to clear our calendars for an evening presentation in New York City on October 24th, teasing that the "Next Big Thing" has arrived. It's easy to make the connection to the Galaxy Note line with a stylus front and center in the teaser, although just what's entailed is left to the imagination: is it a more formal launch for American Galaxy Note II variants? A new tablet beyond the Galaxy Note 10.1? All we know is that we plan to be there to find out.
