Ants may detect earthquakes before they happen

Ants may have the ability to sense earthquakes before they hit according to observations presented at the European Geosciences Union annual meeting.

Gabriele Berberich, a geobioscientist at the University of Duisburg-Essen, recorded three year's worth of the activity of red wood ants living on German fault lines and found that the ants only modified their behaviour when the quake measured over 2.0 on the Richter scale.
